May 17-19th 2024 marked the second event in the NASA RM TT calendar.
I rolled out on Friday to test the car for a few laps, only ran 1 session and about 6 laps Friday and ran pretty well for me and the car – 1:50 consistent.
I was out on Maxxis RC1’s with almost no life left in them so kept it low key. Saturday I rolled in on my new to me trailer to test the truck, trailer and my ability to tie down a car! The morning practice session was pretty amazing. I pulled out a personal best 1:49.6 and thought it was going to be a good weekend, little did I know I had just corded my left front tire and had to move to an old set of backup VR1’s.. My official times reflected that, 1:50-1:52 and a very sketchy car to control I spun hard on turn 8 (yes on video in front of the world!!)
Sunday was another day, came out and rotated some old tires and got on the track for more 1:50’s. Second session out I had a coach of mine drive my car.. I must say it is a bit more intense sitting in a passenger seat. I am used to driving in a race seat and harnessed in, I don’t move at all and really don’t feel the G forces much, I wondered why my better half never wanted to ride in the car on track with me .. I found out why… The entire session I was holding on to the dashboard and thinking… damn this car feels fast AF! .. Anyway, the result was I really learned a lot about the car and how far it can really be pushed, I also learned I need to change my alignment and possibly get new dampers.
Overall it was a great weekend as usual, I ended up finishing 6th and 5th… out of 6 and 5.. shhh! The other drivers in my class in NASA are far superior drivers, which is why I compete here, there’s so much talent and I feed off that. Don’t really care about where I finish, more, what did I learn from these guys.
See you all again next weekend for the Slush Motorsports event at PPI
